North Dakota Department of Commerce earns IEDC’s AEDO accreditation, placing North Dakota among three states recognized nationwide
The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) has accredited the North Dakota Department of Commerce as an Accredited Economic Development Organization (AEDO), making North Dakota one of only three states to earn the designation.
IEDC awards AEDO status through a two-phase review that includes a documentation assessment and an onsite evaluation. The process measures an organization’s structure, programs, staff and overall effectiveness in advancing economic development. Accredited organizations must maintain the designation through a review every three years.
“North Dakota continues to set a national standard for excellence in economic development,” said Gov. Kelly Armstrong. “Earning AEDO accreditation is a remarkable achievement and reflects the high-quality service North Dakotans expect and deserve.”
“Receiving AEDO accreditation recognizes the work within Commerce and the partnership we share with communities across North Dakota,” said Commerce Commissioner Chris Schilken. “Our local leaders, businesses and business-friendly policies set by the legislature drive our progress, and this designation reflects a statewide commitment to meaningful economic development.”
IEDC President Nathan Ohle said the accreditation shows Commerce “displays the professionalism, commitment and technical expertise that is deserving of this honor.”
With more than 5,000 members worldwide, IEDC is the largest membership association serving economic and community development professionals. AEDO accreditation signals to businesses and communities that Commerce meets national standards for excellence in economic development.
